        What to Bring: Heavy down jacket, thermal base layers (tops and bottoms), waterproof hiking jacket and pants, sturdy broken-in hiking boots, a -10°C rated sleeping bag, and a 30L daypack with a rain cover.

        Nice to Have: High-SPF sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, lip balm with SPF, trekking poles to save your knees on the steep 20 km descent down the Marangu trail on Day 6, a headlamp with extra batteries for the midnight summit push, energy gels or favorite candy snacks for a quick boost, and plenty of wet wipes for quick camp refreshes since this route features rugged wilderness camping.
